Switch Your MX Records to Postini

Once you complete the Setup Wizard, you will receive an activation email from Postini. This email provides the information you need to switch your Mail exchange (MX) Records to Postini.MX records are entries within the Domain Name System (DNS) that identify servers that handle email for your domain. You already switched your MX records to Google when you signed up for the Google Apps Premier Edition service. However, to complete the activation process for Policy Management and Message Recovery by Postini, and to ensure that your messages are archived and filtered by Postini, you need to change your domain’s MX records again. The steps in this process vary depending on the domain host that you use. The Google Apps Email Switch Guide provides detailed instructions for several commonly used domain hosts.

IMPORTANT:   Your domain must already be registered with Google Apps Premier Edition before you switch your MX records to Postini; otherwise, the email in your domain will be bounced when you change your MX records.

Before switching your MX records to Postini, carefully review your activation email (see the sample activation email below). This email provides your Postini login information, a list of MX records for switching mail flow to Postini, and the outbound SMTP records that you need to set up outbound mail flow.

Be sure to refer to your activation email for detailed instructions on entering your exact MX records, as you must enter the MX records as listed in the email. In general, your MX records include the following details:

.com.sa1.psmtp.com
.com.sa2.psmtp.com
.com.sb1.psmtp.com
.com.sb2.psmtp.com

Your Postini system number is either 7 or 200. For example, if your domain is stellarshores.com, the activation email shows your MX records as either:

stellarshores.com.s7a1.psmtp.com

stellarshores.com.s7a2.psmtp.com

stellarshores.com.s7b1.psmtp.com

stellarshores.com.s7b2.psmtp.com

or:

stellarshores.com.s200a1.psmtp.com

stellarshores.com.s200a2.psmtp.com

stellarshores.com.s200b1.psmtp.com

stellarshores.com.s200b2.psmtp.com

To switch your MX records to Postini, do the following:Go to the section below for the domain host that you use, and follow the instructions relevant to your domain host. Note: If your domain host is not listed below, see Instructions for Other Service Providers / Domain Hosts. If you don’t know your domain host, you can find this information by running a DNS report on your domain name (for example, at dnsreport.com).Be sure to check your activation email for instructions.
