Send Alerts to a Mobile Device
Alerts are a key tool in tracking the health and status of your email flow. Every time the Connection Manager automatically blocks an attack, the Delivery Manager detects your email server is down, and with each Spool Manager action, an event is triggered.
To set up alerts:
- In the Administration Console, choose an email config from the Choose Org pull-down list and click Inbound Servers > Alerts.
- Click the "Click Here to Configure" link to configure a recipient.
- Enter the name and address of the recipient. Mobile devices such as pagers, mobile phones, and wireless PDAs can receive email, and should be used as the address for your recipients.
- Enter the mobile device's email address in the destination field as you would for the primary email address. See below for a list of common addresses.
- Click the Submit button to return to the Alerts page.
- Check the alerts that you want that recipient to receive. See Alert Descriptions for details on events, or click the Alert Descriptions link at the bottom of the page. In most cases, "Organization Email Host Down" is the most useful link. If you have Spooling, also consider adding the alerts "Spool Initiated," "Spool Full," and "Unspool Initiated" to track when spooling of your mail begins and ends. Avoid using Connection Manager Alerts for a mobile device -- Connection Manager often produces large quantities of Alerts, and no action is needed.
- Click Submit.
Alerts will be sent the next time an event occurs.
To find the email address for your mobile device, use this list, which includes most United States mobile device carriers:

- Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com
- Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
- Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
- Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com
