Another Way to Set Up Outbound Services

The Outbound Services Configuration Guide contains step-by-step instructions about how to set up Outbound Services for the most common mail servers.

As an alternative to these steps, you can also use a Network Access Translation (NAT) table to route Outbound Services. This setup, which requires intimate knowledge of your firewall, is different for each firewall server.

There are three changes to make:

  1. Set your firewall to allow reinjection. Relabel TCP port 25 packets from the Postini IP range so they appear to come from inside your LAN. This is often called "Port forwarding."

  2. Register your external gateway IP address in the Administration Console under Outbound Services.

  3. Next, set your firewall to forward outgoing mail to Postini. Set up a NAT table for all non-local TCP port 25 packets, to be sent from your defined external gateway IP address, and send to the Postini Outbound load balancer.

Because so many different firewall options are possible, step-by-step instructions are not included here. For more information, refer to your firewall documentation.
